NLSFU consultant Ramzi Kassem wins Supreme Court victory in case about FBI pressuring Muslims to become informants
Earlier this week the Supreme Court ruled in favor of NLSFU consultant and founding director of CUNY Law’s CLEAR (Creating Law Enforcement Accountability & Responsibility) Clinic, Ramzi Kassem, who represents the plaintiffs in Tanzin v. Tanvir. The plaintiffs — three Muslim men — are seeking to sue FBI agents who had them placed on the no-fly list in retaliation for refusing to become informants against their community, a violation of their Muslim faith.
While the Trump administration asked the Court to dismiss the case, arguing that allowing the plaintiffs to sue FBI agents would interfere with “sensitive matters of national security and law enforcement,” the Court unanimously disagreed and gave Ramzi and his clients a win by an 8-0 majority.
